American artist Roy E. Burgess has been painting people for fifty years. The artist paints people from different cultures....African-Americans, Anglos, Asians, Hawaiians, Hispanics, Native Americans, Russians, West Indians....They are young and old; urban and rural.
Burgess paints the common people going about their daily lives. Traveling the backroads and streets, he meets people from other walks of life. Observing the details surrounding the people, the artist paints their stories.
Since 1986, Burgess has been exhibiting his paintings in art museums around the Midwest of the United States. His first museum exhibit was “ Rural Roots. “ The paintings were of farmers and small town people. The second series of paintings is “ Streets,” the paintings portray urban city people.
As Artistic Ambassador for People To People International and Iowa Sister States, Burgess created and implemented three international exhibitions of his paintings in Russia and England, and he curated an exhibit and artist exchange with Russian artist, Alexei Sokolenko.
These exhibitions of paintings by Burgess and Sokolenko proved fine art to be unique ambassadors of goodwill to other countries. A respectful, humble, cultured way of learning about people around the world.
